April Haywood - Environmental Officer Manifesto

You care about the environment and so do I. The climate crisis is an issue of justice and we young people deserve a future. At City College Norwich we can play a part in protecting our planet and our future. As Environmental secretary I would propose:

1. Using the Carbon Negative search engine: Ecosia as the default search engine on campus. This will actively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and directly fight climate change by planting trees where they're most needed; without costing the College any money.

2. Having meat free Mondays in college catering, as well as looking at more sustainable local produce and packaging.

3. Offering more reusable and sustainable sanitary products as part of the tricky period scheme, so they are accessible for everyone.

4. Working with the College to ensure we have have the most environmentally friendly and sustainable external suppliers, including energy.

The responsibility of solving world issues should not be placed on solely on individuals, but we young people are not powerless. I am the member of youth Parliament for North and West Norfolk, so I have experience in youth voice. There is still hope, and by voting for me, your concerns about the climate crisis will not go unheard.

Teigan Stacey Campaign Material - LGBTQ+ Officer

Hello, my names Teigan Stacey and I am applying for LGBTQ+ officer!

Why do I believe I would suit this role?

Firstly, I am part of the community so have experience in all areas of it.

  • I am always trying to help others dealing with issues in the LGBTQ+ community such as being worried about their sexuality or gender identity or even how to come out to their parents and people often come to me for advice.
  • I am very passionate in believing everyone should be accepted no matter their identity gender or sexual preference or anything and if students do feel uneasy or worried, I want to be there to help support them and encourage them!

Experience?

  • I have experience like I said not only am I part of the community but in high school I was the ambassador for wellbeing which means I dealt with a lot of LGBTQ+ related issues and teachers often asked me to give students advice.
  • I also created and presented presentations for pride month.
  • I created my own LGBTQ+ club during lunch time called diversity to give students a safe space to eat and chat and also to learn about all aspects of the community as I also did presentations during the club.
  • What do I plan to do?

I want to help raise awareness of every kind of person in the community and the struggles they have had to face, through presentations, talks, posters etc there are many ways this can be done.

I want to make sure any kind of homophobia, transphobia, biphobia and any other form of hate crime is addressed and handled immediately!

I want to be someone people can feel comfortable asking for advice from, a friendly face if they don’t feel comfortable telling a teacher or tutor. So even if they feel they can’t tell someone I can then be their voice and send them in the right direction if they need help that I can’t provide.

As someone who has dealt with homophobia, I don’t want anyone else to go through it as everyone is individual and valid regardless of anyone’s opinion.

I would like to create a club as well though I need to think how I will do that in the current situation.

I will ensure everyone in the LGBTQ+ community feels represented within our college.
