The Elections 2020 for the new Students' Union Executive officers have now been officially announced.

The Students' Union is an important and integral part of College life. Governors and the Principal welcome your comments and are always willing to listen to ideas and constructive criticism and this is your opportunity to become involved in making the SU an effective voice for students.

The SU will have vacancies for part time voluntary positions which if you decided to run is not only a great opportunity to make a real impact in supporting students and College life but it will also look great on your C.V. The full list of posts open for election is as follows:

  • The Further Education Officer (x3)
  • The Higher Education Officer (x2)
  • The Environment’s Officer
  • The LGBT+ Officer
  • The Disabilities Officer
  • The Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Officer
  • The Women’s Officer
  • The Men’s Welfare Officer
  • The International Officer
  • The Apprentice Officer
  • The Events and Fundraising Officer

This year the elections will be run online and to do this you will need to log into your College account. From the Blackboard homepage click on the ‘organisations’ tab on the left had side then the ‘college information’ section in the menu, the elections tab on the left hand side and finally ‘Students’ Union Election’. You will find here all the documents and links relating to the elections, and if you’re thinking of standing for election you should have a look at these. Should you have any problems in accessing these please contact the students’ union or myself who will be able to help you.

All the posts are to start from Monday 9th November 2020, and are for the 2020-21 academic year. If you have any questions about any of the posts or would like further information, Emily Staley (current President) would be happy to talk to you and give you an idea of what exactly is involved. Please contact Emily via email on Emily.staley@ccn.ac.uk

The Election Packs will be available online from Monday 27th September.

Nominations for these posts open on Monday 5th October and close on Friday 9th October at 5pm. To submit your nomination, you will need to go to the following link on the above dates only. Nominations will not be accepted before or after these dates. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=IvmxHd7_WkC69sDkokVSqWWJ6mIuGxtDiytmae_OqwVUQVlWQThFRTRYVUpUNTZPTVpVTFYwT0NCNC4u

Campaigning starts on Wednesday 14th October  and Voting will take place from Monday 2nd November and close Friday 6th November 2020 at 5:00pm. All students will have the opportunity to vote using an online system by logging into Blackboard with their account and using any computer connected to the internet.

Please note that if you are nominated as a candidate, the SU constitution requires you to attend a ‘virtual question time’ session during the elections, the details of which you can find on the Election Timetable. This is important since if you do not attend you could be considered to have withdrawn as a candidate.

As mentioned, should you have any issues accessing any of the election, please contact myself or Emily who will be able to help.

My role as Returning Officer is to provide an independent voice to ensure that the elections are conducted fairly and in a transparent manner. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Best wishes and good luck,

Jacky Sturman;
